Unidirectional microphones, also called cardioid microphones, focus pickup in the front direction, effectively reducing background noise. They are ideal for walkie-talkies, intercom systems, in-car voice input, conference microphones, and other scenarios that require clear voice capture.

Unidirectional microphones use front and rear sound holes to create a pressure gradient, picking up sound mainly from one direction. Omnidirectional microphones pick up sound evenly from all directions. Unidirectional mics work better in noisy environments, while omnidirectional mics are better for capturing ambient sounds.

ECM-B9750UP-45, a 9.7mm cardioid microphone designed for car stereo systems, effectively isolates noise, ideal for Bluetooth hands-free and voice control.

Unidirectional microphones rely on front and rear sound holes to create the pressure gradient needed for directionality. Sealing these holes completely (to achieve IP67 waterproofing) would impair their function.
